Going Off-Script
My mind is made up! Among my many other professional career goals (including but not limited to writer, editor, and academic), I have decided to embark on the journey of being an independent model. Being a model is something that I’ve dreamed about since I was about 10 years old, but never fully committed to for several reasons.
For one, I figured modeling wasn’t really in the cards for me since I’m 5’6” tall and have been since high school. I’m not exactly glamazon stature. Until very recently, my fears about height limitations in the industry were valid; but as the world of modeling evolves, I realize that I can no longer allow that to discourage me from working towards this. My other main excuse for pushing this off for so long, was my feeling that modeling didn’t fit into the plans that I saw for myself. I’m a very goal and plan oriented person — admittedly, sometimes to a fault — and often put unnecessary limits on myself just because I can’t see how things will turn out. Thankfully, I’m learning more and more each day that some of life’s most rewarding decisions come from going off-script.
I’m excited for the new challenges, lessons, and work that this will bring. I’m also looking forward to growing and pushing myself as a creative, as well as allowing my different creative practices to learn from one another. I wanted to use my website as the platform for sharing this because I am beginning to use this site much more as a space to share thoughts and experimentation. I hope you’ll engage with all that I share here and join me on my lil journey;)
